'Happy with what we have,' Zak Brown closes the door for Adrian Newey at McLaren after shock Red Bull exit

F1 aero genius Adrian Newey decided to leave Red Bull after spending two decades at Milton Keynes. The 65-year-old played a pivotal role in the Austrian team’s success over the years. Rumors have surfaced about the future possibilities for the Briton. However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown affirmed that the Woking-based team was not interested in signing Newey.

Brown insisted that McLaren was happy with its current technical leadership. The McLaren boss highlighted that Adrian Newey remains the most successful F1 designer in history. Moreover, Zak Brown shares a strong bond with Newey. The 52-year-old revealed that he would be attending the Historical Grand Prix of Monaco alongside the Briton this year.

I have heard of him. We are very happy with what we have. Adrian is the most successful designer of all time and also a good friend, we are going to run together at the Monaco Historical GP this week. Zak Brown said on Beyond the Grid

Additionally, the McLaren CEO admitted that he was fascinated by Newey’s decision to leave Milton Keynes in early 2025. Zak Brown was looking forward to seeing where the Briton was headed. Previously, rumors had emerged that Ferrari was willing to offer Adrian Newey a lucrative salary to join Maranello next year.

It is fascinating that he has left Red Bull and we will see what happens. Zak Brown stated

Zak Brown insists Adrian Newey will remain in motorsport

Adrian Newey’s manager and former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan had stated that Newey might take some time off after leaving Red Bull. However, Zak Brown reckoned that the Briton would continue in the world of motorsport. The McLaren boss highlighted the 65-year-old’s contribution to the Aston Martin Valkyrie Hypercar and the desire to win Le Mans.

I think he will continue in motorsports, he loves this sport. He has already created street cars, he has the Valkyrie, he has also told me that he would love to win Le Mans. Zak Brown asserted

Additionally, Zak Brown recalled Adrian Newey’s stint in IndyCar as race engineer. The Briton was the race engineer of Bobby Rahal. Subsequently, Newey and Rahal had great relations when the latter headed the Jaguar F1 team. Although, it took years to get over a rift in their friendship when the aero genius decided not to join Jaguar after negotiations.

Although many people did not know, he was at IndyCar, hence his good relationship with Bobby Rahal when he was in Jaguar.

Zak Brown noted

Certainly, Adrian Newey continues have a passion for racing. The 65-year-old will likely remain in the F1 paddock or any other category. However, it would not be surprising if the Briton decides to spend some time with his family before joining a new project.
