Warriors set target date for Stephen Curry's return

Golden State Warriors star and four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry has missed the past nine games due to a shoulder injury he suffered on Dec. 14 against the Indiana Pacers.

With his Warriors in the midst of a five-game winning streak, there seems to be some good news on this front.

Appearing on 95.7 The Game in the Bay Area, Warriors general manager Bob Myers indicated that they’re hoping for a Jan. 13 return against the San Antonio Spurs.

If this comes to fruition, it means that Curry would’ve missed 12 games. That includes the entirety of Golden State’s ongoing eight-game homestand.

Despite their current winning streak, it’s rather obvious that the defending champs are missing what Curry brings to the table. Prior to going down to injury, he was in the midst of another MVP-caliber season.

Curry, 34, is on pace to put up his second career 50-40-90 season. Outside of the Baby-Faced Assassin, only eight players in Association history have accomplished this feat.

At 20-18 on the season, Golden State is closing up shop on a very average first half. It has also had to rely a lot on Jordan Poole to do his thing with both Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins sidelined recently.

During Curry’s nine-game absence, Poole is averaging 29.1 points on 44% shooting. He’s also turning the ball over north of five times per game. Getting Curry back to do more of the ball-handling while being the No. 1 scoring option will be huge for Poole and the Warriors.
