Bears Elevate Pair of Players For Monday Night Football
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Before Monday Night Football's matchup between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, the Bears made a pair of roster moves. Linebacker DeMarquis Gates and defensive back Christian Matthew have been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for Monday's game.

Gates has suited up for five games over the last two seasons in Chicago. Gates appeared in three games during the 2022 season and two games so far in 2023. In total, Gates has two total tackles and a fumble recovery in his short NFL career.

As for Matthew, he saw plenty of action with the Arizona Cardinals over the last two seasons. As a rookie in 2022, Matthew played 14 games with the Cardinals and made three starts. The Columbus, GA native recorded 19 tackles and defended three passes during his rookie campaign. However, Matthew has only seen action in four games during the 2023 season. Matthew was signed to the Bears' practice squad back in early October after he was released by Arizona.

Although both players will likely have special teams roles on Monday night, if they play at all, they both provide helpful depth at their respective positions.

The Bears and Vikings will kick off at 7:15 pm CT from U.S. Bank Field on Monday. The Vikings are looking for their seventh win of the season while the Bears are looking for win no. 4.
