Green Bay Packers’ GM Hints At Major Offseason Trades
USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

The Green Bay Packers are coming off of a surprisingly impressive season, and they clearly have something to build on moving forward.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst discussed his team’s plans for the offseason on Thursday, and in doing so, he hinted that Green Bay could be making some significant trades in the coming months.

“Probably have a little more volume at the top than we’ve had in the past,” Gutekunst said of the Packers’ draft picks, via Eli Berkovits of CBS Sports. “Picking, trading, moving around. … Maybe trading those picks for veteran players.”

Green Bay owns 11 picks in this year’s NFL Draft, and three of those selections are inside the top 50. Given that the Packers already appear to be legitimate contenders, it would certainly make sense for Gutekunst and the front office to move some picks for established players.

No one expected Green Bay to seriously contend this past season, but the Packers managed to snatch the final Wild Card spot in the NFC after going 6-2 over their last eight games.

Green Bay then proceeded rout the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before falling to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round in a game that the Packers were leading heading into the fourth quarter.

Much of Green Bay’s success can be attributed to the play of young quarterback Jordan Love, who dazzled in his first season as the club’s full-time starter.

This isn’t to say that the Packers don’t have needs. They do, and they should absolutely address them this offseason if they want to make a deep playoff run next winter.

The good news is it seems like Gutekunst completely understands this and is willing to wheel and deal in order to bolster the roster for another big push in 2024.
