The Vikings officially have a kicking competition
USA TODAY Sports

We have a kicking competition!

Speaking to the media Friday, special teams coordinator Matt Daniels confirmed the competition, saying, "Last year we had Jordan Berry and Mr. [Ryan] Wright. It was a punting competition. This year Greg Joseph and Jack Podlesny and it's a kicking competition."

Joseph's accuracy dropped from 2021 to 2022:

Field Goals: 33/38 86% (2021) | 26/33 78% (2022)

Extra Points: 36/40 90% (2021) | 40/46 87% (2022)

Podlesny was the 2022 SEC Special Teams Player of the Year and First-Team All-SEC.

He was a career 82.4% field goal kicker in three years at Georgia. With the shorter extra point in college, Podlesny converted 182 of 184 attempts.

"The goal is, the way this roster has been built out, we're looking to compete at every single aspect, every single level of every single position," Daniels said. "Ideally, the goal is that once we get down from 90 to 53, the other 37 individuals that was apart of [camp] are playing for 31 other teams in this league. So, that's how the roster is built out. Our personnel has done an unbelievable job of putting it together. So, it is a kicking competition."

Sure, Joseph may have nailed some game-winning kicks in 2022, but he's going up against a kicker whose nickname, according to Wikipedia, is "Hot Pod."

Could life get any better?
