Roma manager Daniele De Rossi has reportedly set his sights on Juventus star forward Federico Chiesa ahead of the summer transfer window. According to CalciomercatoGiallorossi could make a concrete attempt to lure the Italy international away from Turin amid Massimiliano Allegri’s uncertain future.

Chiesa’s career at Juventus has had ups and downs, largely thanks to Allegri’s conservative tactical choices. There’s a prevailing belief the defensive-minded manager has curtailed the ex-Fiorentina winger’s development. If he stays at the Allianz Stadium, Chiesa could go, with Roma willing to fancy their chances.

De Rossi knows Chiesa well from the time they worked together at the national team. The new Roma manager was part of Roberto Mancini’s coaching staff during Italy’s triumphant Euro 2020 run. And the Juventus ace was among the protagonists. But whether the two could reunite at the Stadio Olimpico remains to be seen.

Juventus and Chiesa have been locked in extension talks for months. That contractual standstill could hand Roma a decisive boost, especially if Allegri stays at the helm. Though the odds are long, De Rossi’s men are no strangers to robbing Bianconeri of their talismanic figures. Less than two years ago, Paulo Dybala swapped Turin for Rome on a free transfer.

The Argentine has since become a crucial first-team star for Roma and could use his influence to convince Chiesa to join him in the capital. Much will depend on whether Giallorossi can secure Champions League football. As odd as it sounds, this could be among the most incredible transfer stories this summer.
